Burkina Faso has seen a sharp deterioration in its security, political, institutional and health situation, resulting in a continuing, extreme worsening of food and nutrition security since 2015. Rural areas, where agriculture, livestock-breeding and forest-, wildlife- and fishery-resource harvesting employ around 90 percent of the active population and are the only source of livelihoods, have been hit the hardest. The project aimed to bring about positive, sustainable and equitable change, improving the living conditions and the food and nutrition security of pastoralists and agropastoralists in the Sahel, North, Centre-North and Boucle du Mouhoun regions, by promoting a peaceful environment and social cohesion. The adoption of good practices in natural resource use and sustainable management, the continuous improvement of agropastoral productivity by following a value chain approach, as well as the promotion of peace/social cohesion and sound nutrition practices were expected to strengthen communities’ resilience and reduce poverty.
