This factsheet is intended to explain the background and rationale for the proclamation of an International Year of Plant Health (IYPH), and to trigger action by relevant policy makers in supporting the IYPH programme as well as in increasing the awareness on plant health. The factsheet provides information on what international years are, why an IYPH is direly needed, and how relevant groups can contribute. It also highlights the relation between plant health and poverty reduction, economic development, environmental protection and food security.
