Descripción
Food contact materials (FCMs) play a central role in preserving food and reducing food waste, with more than two-thirds of all packaging materials produced used in the food and beverage sector. FCMs comprise various categories of manufactured materials, including food processing equipment, food preparation surfaces, food transportation containers, cookware, and direct food packaging and its components. This webinar was organized by the Agrifood Systems and Food Safety Division of FAO as a launch event for the recent report titled "Food safety implications of recycled plastics and alternative food contact materials." The event aimed to present the publication’s key findings and foster discussion on the food safety aspects that need to be considered and addressed when using recycled plastics and alternative materials in food packaging.
