This factsheet highlights the top 10 species groups in global aquaculture production in the year 2022. It also includes a feature section on characins, a freshwater fish group that comprises species within the order Characiformes. The ranking of all 70 species groups is illustrated on the back cover. For a more detailed examination of the top 10 species groups at regional and national levels, supplementary materials are available in a comprehensive factsheet (FAO, 2024a). This additional resource also elaborates on the methodology used for species grouping, along with information on the top 10 producers of all 70 species groups.
