Descripción

On 3 November 2023, a 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal, resulting in the loss of lives and property and causing extensive damage to the agriculture sector, the source of livelihoods for many of the affected households. These losses are expected to have both an immediate and long-term impact on the affected households, many of whom were already facing moderate or severe food insecurity prior to the earthquake. In the wake of these devastating impacts, the Government of the Kingdom of Belgium contributed USD 500 000 to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations through the Special Fund for Emergency and Rehabilitation Activities, to provide agricultural production inputs to 1 400 earthquake-affected households (7 700 people). This document provides a brief description of the situation, impact on agricultural livelihoods and planned interventions aimed at helping the targeted households resume food production and restore their livelihoods.
