| dc.description | Rural small scale producers in Lebanon lack proper access to markets, business skills, resources, information systems and peer mentoring that is critical for entrepreneurs to survive and succeed in their first years of business Small scale producers and smallholders, including agribusinesses, forest and range based micro enterprises, are often not targeted left by big government programmes and private investment funds As such, they are not able to seize the opportunities presented by modern technology, which allow them to be located in remote areas while at the same time functioning effectively and responding to consumers’ needs The concept of entrepreneurship is less common within rural communities because it tends to be more present in urban areas where major facilities and services are available In other cases, misperceptions of financial management and tax requirements may discourage smallholders from seeking legal advice or approaching institution Thus, there is a strong need to encourage and assist smallholders and rural agribusinesses, whether represented by profit or non profit organizations, and help them survive and thrive, especially in the first years of starting their businesses. | |
