The Islamic Republic of Pakistan nominated Chilgoza pine nuts as special agricultural product (SAP) under the One Country One Priority Product (OCOP) initiative. Chilgoza pine nuts, indigenous to Pakistan, are highly sought after for their unique taste and nutritional benefits. These nuts are rich in protein, healthy fats, antioxidants, and essential nutrients, making them a superfood with numerous health benefits such as boosting the immune system and aiding in weight loss. Pakistan ranks as the third-largest producer of pine nuts globally, with Chilgoza forests covering significant areas in regions like Shirani, South and North Waziristan, Chitral, and Diamer districts. The production process involves harvesting green cones, drying them under the sun, shelling the nuts, grading them for quality, and then roasting or consuming them raw. With increasing demand both locally and internationally, Pakistan's Chilgoza pine nut industry presents opportunities for partnership and investment to further develop this unique agricultural product.
