Resumen

Descripción

Fisheries in the Asia-Pacific region account for over 60% of global production but face significant overfishing pressures, with 30–48% of stocks already over-exploited. Management is further complicated by the predominance of multi-species and multi-gear (MSMG) fisheries, where traditional single-species MSY approaches are often ineffective. To address this, ecosystem-based management tools such as the MMSY Toolbox are being promoted.A preparatory webinar held on 17 March 2026, organized by SEAFDEC and FAO, introduced key concepts and regional experiences in MSMG fisheries management. Building on this, a Regional Workshop will be held on 8–12 June 2026 in Bangkok to strengthen capacity, promote practical solutions, and enhance regional collaboration. The workshop aims to examine MSMG management challenges, identify technical limitations in tropical mixed fisheries, and introduce practical tools to support evidence-based fisheries management.
