This document provides an overview of FAO's component of the 2023 Humanitarian Response Plan for Mozambique. Climate shocks and conflict in northern Mozambique continue to exacerbate the food insecurity situation. The influx of internally displaced people since the onset of the conflict has placed particular pressure on host communities, increasing competition over scarce resources and worsening living conditions among vulnerable groups. With over 80 percent of the population relying on agricultural livelihoods for food and income, substantial support to the sector is critical. This includes protecting livestock assets that provide nutrition to families daily. USD 5 to treat and vaccinate a goat, protects an asset worth USD 75 that provides a child with two glasses of milk a day.
