This document details the methodology and structure of the first version of the Global Database of Land Distribution and Inequality (LINEQ), a global database of agricultural land distribution and inequality indicators covering 623 census and survey observations across 177 countries from 1930 to 2020. Drawing primarily on FAO’s World Programme for the Census of Agriculture and complementary surveys, the dataset reconstructs continuous farm-size distributions from grouped tabulations using generalized Pareto interpolation, following systematic data consistency checks and corrections. LINEQ V1 reports structural indicators (number of holdings, total operated land, mean and median farm size), inequality measures (Gini index and land shares by decile), and detailed farm-size composition statistics.
