| dc.description | On 24–26 June 2024, over 70 practitioners and researchers from around the world gathered at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome for a technical workshop on leveraging local and traditional food markets (LTFMs) and public food procurement (PFP) to improve the availability of nutritious food. The workshop, organized by FAO with the support of the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), had three objectives: i) to synthesize evidence on the role of LTFMs and PFP in contributing to the availability and accessibility of nutritious foods to consumers, ii) to delineate challenges and opportunities for realizing the potential of LTFMs and PFP to scale up the role of small-scale producers and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the supply of nutritious food, and iii) to reflect on how LTFMs and PFP can influence other dimensions of food environments and sustainability. This report synthesizes some of the key messages from three active days of discussion. | |
