In accordance with Resolution 10/2019 of the 41st Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Conference, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), at its 75th session in March 2021, designated 2023 as the International Year of Millets (IYM). It entrusted FAO with leading its implementation in coordination with governments and United Nations (UN) system organizations, alongside international and regional bodies, civil society, research institutions, development agencies and the private sector. Led by FAO, this project aimed to raise awareness of the nutritional, health and environmental benefits of millets while promoting their cultivation under adverse climatic conditions.
