In July 2025, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations conducted a household food security and agricultural livelihoods assessment in government-controlled areas of Ukraine to support evidence-based decision-making. The assessment was based on phone interviews with 2 874 households across nine frontline oblasts. Results show that agriculture, largely subsistence-based, remains a key source of household resilience. Households engaged in farming demonstrate better food security outcomes, including more diverse diets and lower reliance on negative coping strategies. At the same time, many agricultural households face increasing financial pressure due to stagnant or declining incomes. Exposure to war-related and socioeconomic shocks significantly worsens food security, particularly among households near the frontline, women-headed households and internally displaced persons. Limited access to agricultural inputs and declining production highlight the urgent need for targeted support to protect livelihoods and strengthen household resilience.
