Higher wheat prices, together with a combination of poor wheat harvests in 2010 and ongoing conflict are limiting poor households' access to food. The escalating violence has increased concerns over the humanitarian situation in the country; political tensions are also souring due to the disputed parliamentary elections. Agencies agree on pockets of high food insecurity in deficit producing regions of the centre and the northeast; poor households and IDPs are more likely to be highly f ood insecure. Political turmoil hampers government actions in food and agricultural development; the population is assisted by aid agencies distributing food and inputs to support producers.
