Having submitted its Fourth National Communication and its second Biennial Update Report (BUR), Togo is committed to delivering under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and its Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) and intends to meet the 2024 deadline to prepare its first Biennial Transparency Report (BTR). However, lack of solid institutional arrangements, data and knowledge of ETF core requirements currently affect the country’s ability to prepare timely and quality national greenhouse gas inventories ( GHGIs). In order to tackle some of these bottlenecks and support countries to meet UNFCCC requirements under the ETF, FAO recently strengthened national capacities through a dedicated training programme on quality assurance/quality control of the GHGIs.
