Descripción
The Federal Government of Germany, contributed USD 3 million, through the Special Fund for Emergency and Rehabilitation Activities – Anticipatory Action window, to FAO's project entitled ''Anticipatory action for flood risk in the Sahel''. Anticipatory actions were implemented in Chad, Mali, the Niger and Nigeria, benefitting a total of 22 832 households. The project aimed at mitigating the potential impact of forecast floods on agricultural livelihoods in the areas most at risk in the Sahel. Thanks to the activities implemented, early warning messages were disseminated and risk awareness of communities was strengthened, helping households to better cope with forecast shocks. Providing households with lifesaving cash and essential agricultural inputs enabled them to meet their most immediate needs and safeguard their livelihoods and ensure food production.
