| dc.description | Weeks of intense rainfall and widespread flooding have severely disrupted people’s lives, livelihoods and essential services in southern and central Mozambique. Hundreds of thousands of people have already been affected, with numbers expected to rise as the situation continues to evolve. Vast areas of cropland have been destroyed, significant losses of livestock have been reported and fishing assets, including boats and fish tanks have been washed away. For affected families, the loss is not just a failed harvest, but the destruction of their entire means of production. Without immediate and urgent support, the country risks a secondary crisis, marked by prolonged acute food insecurity and increased dependence on humanitarian assistance. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) requires USD 27.9 million to assist 620 000 people to restore their food production and protect their agrifood systems-based livelihoods, enabling communities to recover with dignity. | |
