Increased demand and a strong dollar, boosted U.S. agricultural imports in FY 1984 to a record $18.9 billion, 16 percent above those of the same period in 1983. U.S. dollar exchange rates on international markets showed almost unbroken monthly increases during FY 1984, reached an 11-year high against the German mark, and set records relative to the British pound, French franc, and Italian lira.
