Pesticides play a crucial role in agriculture, public health, and consequently, the eradication of hunger and food insecurity as well as the enhancement of farmers’ livelihoods. However, pesticides kill pests but also their natural enemies. The inappropriate use of pesticides can harm farmers, consumers, and the environment. Pesticide overuse disrupts the natural balance of the crop ecosystem. It also contributes to a vicious cycle of pest resistance, which can lead to increased pesticide use while crop losses to pests and diseases remain unchanged. Under the conditions of use in a country or region, a pesticide must be effective for its intended purposes and not pose an unacceptable risk to human, animal health, or the environment.
