Statistics on food and agriculture provide the foundation for evidence-based policy making both for national governments and the international community. For FAO, a sound statistical basis plays a critical role in designing and targeting policies to reduce hunger, malnutrition and rural poverty. A sound statistical basis is also essential in monitoring progress towards national and international development goals and targets. It is therefore imperative that the data produced by FAO are of the hi ghest possible quality.
