In Republic of Korea, in order to establish a distribution order for wood products and to use them safely, 15 wood products prescribed by 'Act on The Sustainable Use of Timber' law are under quality control.
Among them, preserved wood is a product produced to increase the durability and economic value of wood. Preserved wood treated with copper compound-based preservatives such as ACQ and CUAZ is mainly used. In Korea, it is mainly used for decking(50.9 %) and landscaping(24.1 %), and about 95% of the used preserved wood is H3 grade. The preserved wood market is showing a decreasing trend every year, and it decreased to about 50% in 2019 compared to 2016.
In order to confirm the reason for the decreasing steadily of the market for preserved wood in terms of quality, we will analyze the current situation such as quality changes based on the test analysis results conducted by the Korea Forestry Promotion Institute for the past 5 years, and review the areas for improvement.
