As a carrier of rural population, rural residential area carries important functions such as rural production and life. This paper studied the characteristics of rural residential area and optimization model, to lay certain foundation for integrating urban and rural development and increasing economic income. With the aid of ArcGIS10.1 and Fragstats3.4 software, based on the theory of landscape ecology, it analyzed the distribution characteristics of residential area in Wangcun River Basin of Anze County, Linrfen City, Shanxi Province. Besides, according to distribution characteristics, it analyzed three optimization models: priority development model, retention limit development model, and migration development model.
