Reports results of two demographic sample surveys in central Mali, analysing data which relate to age specific mortality and fertility of Bambara cultivators and Twareg nomadic cattle herders living in the area of the Niger inundation zone. Discusses results of the 1981 survey & compares them with earlier surveys undertaken in 1956-1958 & 1960-1961 & w. census data of 1979.
