Thailand has an estimated 1000 varieties of tropical and sub-tropical fruits. Only a small number of these are cultivated commercially or in home gardens. Not enough is known about fruit types that are still not used or under-utilized. Some are on the verge of extinction. The publication attempts to fill the gap in documented information about such species in the hope that they may catch the attention of those persons in the public and private sectors concerned not only with commercial developme nt, but also with the conservation of national and regional bio-diversity. This document compiles information from various sources on 35 species of under-utilized tropical fruits growing in Thailand. These have been classified into three categories. Species with potential for commercial development include tropical and sub-tropical fruits that can have good market value if subjected to more research on marketing and post-harvest storage, such as the 'chomphu-mamieow', 'luk yee' and 'mafai'. Then there are fruits that have good home garden value though it would be difficult to bring these to the main markets, such as 'chomphu-nam dok mai', 'matoom' and 'som-saa'. Species that do not appear to have economic potential mainly grow in the wild and include 'chammaliang' and 'takhop farang'. These should, nonetheless, be conserved as genetic resources for future scientific investigation.
