The main aim of the paper is verification of social development in rural areas in Poland. Therefore, used
the method of principal components, which were calculated the aggregate development indicator. The applied
method allows analysis of a multi-faceted problem with fulfilled condition of the low correlation of selected
features. The analysis was based to BDL CSO database. The results are quite surprising. For the first three
places qualified province with a not high level of economic development. Variables significantly affecting the
value of the aggregate development indicator included to the category of quality of life and social inclusion.
