Abstract - Luteal function plays a decisive role in the reproductive success of small ruminants and, consequently, in the effectiveness of biotechniques applied to reproduction. Ultrasonography, especially with the advent of color Doppler, has become an indispensable tool for evaluating luteal activity, allowing non-invasive, real-time monitoring with high accuracy. This work addresses the applications of B-mode and Doppler ultrasonography in the characterization of the corpus luteum (CL), highlighting biometric, echotextural, and hemodynamic parameters that directly correlate with endocrine functionality, represented by the production of progesterone (P4). The technique allows early identification of dysfunctions such as premature regression of the corpus luteum (RPCL) and monitoring the effects of luteotrophic hormonal treatments, such as the administration of hCG. Objective image analysis using specific software increases the accuracy of assessments, making ultrasound an essential tool for decisionmaking in artificial insemination, superovulation, and embryo transfer programs. It is concluded that the integration of ultrasound into the eproductive routine is strategic for optimizing donor selection, anticipating interventions, and increasing pregnancy rates in goats and sheep.
