Descripción
The transformation of the agricultural sector in Latin America and the Caribbean requires improving productivity in a sustainable and inclusive way. Significant technological, institutional, and innovation gaps persist, particularly affecting small-scale producers, due to weak coordination among stakeholders and limited investment in public goods such as research, extension services, and information systems. The role of agricultural technologies, such as digitalization, biotechnology, and precision agriculture, is highlighted as a catalyst for a new production model based on data, efficiency, and sustainability. It is emphasized that effective technology adoption depends on enabling conditions, including reliable connectivity, data infrastructure, technical capacities, and supportive public policies. Finally, strengthening institutional frameworks, governance, and extension services is proposed, promoting cooperation, innovation, and financing mechanisms to advance toward more resilient, competitive, and sustainable agri-food systems.
