Guinea-Bissau has one of the most extensive platforms on the west coast of Africa with shallow depths. This characteristic favors an abundance of fishery resources. Guinea-Bissau's economy, heavily dependent on agriculture and fishing, is one of the least developed countries. The fishing sector contributes to the economic and social development of the country by providing employment estimated between 6 300 and 6 600 people, including 4 140 in artisanal fishing, 523 in industrial fishing vessels and between 1 690 to 1 900 in processing and processing. Industrial fishing activity is dominated by the foreign fleet (European Union, Senegal, Russia and China).
