Resumen
Descripción
The implications of the combined phenomena of climate change and human activities are leading to forest degradation and fragmentation and pose a serious threat to Lebanon’s food security, watersheds, biodiversity and to the stability of ecosystem-regulating functions and services, including the contribution of forests to the country’s tourism sector. In 2012, the Ministry of Agriculture launched the National Afforestation and Reforestation Programme. With reforestation being a strategic priority for the Government, there was an urgent need to develop the Ministry’s planning and implementation capacity.
