Descripción
The research reported in this article establishes elements for structural analysis andcompetitive analysis in the petrochemical sector in Falcon state, on a general level and associatedwith intermediate refining levels. The principal characteristics of the sector were determined. as wellas the basic competitive factors in which the key elements were the conditions in relation to thesupply of raw material, the condition of the installations, the geographical location and thedifferentiation of the products. The research was descriptive co-relational and was based on a non-experimental ex pos-facto modality, and data collection, and its study and posterior description wassystematized through trans-sectional design methodology. The study universe involved all theenterprises of petrochemical activity in the zone, and included as objects of study those that werefound in the operative phase (Vassa, Puramin and Profalca). The results show that the refiningsegments are of great relevance in the portfolio of business in the national petrochemical sector. However, problems in raw material supply, the quality of the services and their costs, and someexternal environmental situations that are beyond the control of the enterprises make up the mainelements that affect competitiveness in this sector which is in contrast to the comparative advantagesthat the region could offer for the development of the petrochemical industry of the country.
