Descripción
The ongoing war in Ukraine is significantly impacting the forestry sector, with accumulated damages of USD 3.3 billion at the end of 2023. The destruction of forests due to fire damage in war-affected areas has impacted 211 574 hectares and thousands of people. In response, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is deploying its technical capacities and scaling up its emergency response to support the Government of Ukraine in improving forest management planning and protecting rural livelihoods. With a contribution of USD 400 000 from the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture, FAO is implementing project OSRO/UKR/039/GER, entitled “Improving forest management planning by strengthening local capacities.” This document summarizes the project’s objectives and expected outputs.
