This document presents the final evaluation of the project “Establishment of a Network of Nationally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (NIAHS)”, executed by the Ministry of Agriculture through its Office of Agricultural Studies and Policies and the Institute of Agricultural Development, and implemented by FAO. The project’s objective was the conservation of agrobiodiversity in Chile through the establishment of Nationally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems in the High Andean and Northern Precordillera and Cordillera Pehuenche territories. The evaluation found that the project contributed to the conservation of Chilean agrobiodiversity; the application of the GIAHS approach facilitated the creation of sustainable production systems that incorporate diverse species and varieties of agrobiodiversity, while enhancing territorial environmental management and promoting productivity improvements. Valuing local knowledge and traditional practices was essential for sustainability. To enhance sustainability further, it is recommended to establish a collaborative workspace for implementing public policy instruments developed through the project, create partnerships between state institutions and private actors to access new markets, and engage youth in sustainable agricultural practices within future FAO and the Ministry of Agriculture initiatives.
