RESUMO - O estudo teve como objetivo avaliar pastagens de três cultivares de Panicum maximum Jacq. submetidas ao pastejo rotativo, quanto ao valor nutritivo, estimando-se os teores de proteína bruta e fibra em detergente neutro e digestibilidade em amostras da forragem disponível no pasto e em amostras selecionadas por bovinos fistulados no esôfago. Estudou-se também, na cultivar Tanzânia, a adubação nitrogenada no final do período chuvoso, adicional a de manutenção comum ás demais cultivares. As amostragens foram realizadas em junho, setembro e novembro de 1998 e março de 1999. Algumas diferenças entre tratamentos foram observadas, apresentando em geral, menor valor nutritivo da cv. Massai, com menores teores de proteína bruta e digestibilidade e maiores teores de fibra em detergente neutro nas amostras de folha, colmo e extrusa. Verificou-se efeito positivo da adubação nitrogenada adicional no teor de proteína bruta das folhas, em março de 1999. Em todos os tratamento, os animais foram capazes de selecionar dieta de maior valor nutritivo que a forragem disponível. ABSTRACT - The objective of this research was to evaluate pastures of three Panicum maximum Jacq. cultivars submitted to rotative grazing, estimating the crude protein and neutral detergent fiber content and digestibility in available forage samples and in selected forage by esophagus-fistulated steers. For the Tanzania cultivar, the selection of nitrogenated fertilization at the end of the raining period was also studied. Sampling was carried out in June, September and November, 1998 and March 1999. Some differences among treatments were observed, tending to higher neutral detergent fiber contents and lower raw protein and digestibility contents for cv. Massai, in leaf, stem and extrusa samples. There was a positive influence of nitrogenated fertilization on crude protein content in March. In all of the treatments, animals were able to select the most nutritious diets.
