Descripción
The strategic plan (2026–2031) sets out a clear, forward-looking framework to strengthen global food safety and fair practices in food trade through science-based standards. It outlines Codex’s vision for the next six years in a rapidly evolving global landscape.Developed through an inclusive, multi-year process involving Members and Observers, the strategic plan defines four key goals to guide Codex work: responding to emerging food safety challenges, enhancing work management systems, strengthening collaboration with international organizations, and increasing the visibility and use of Codex standards. With 188 Member Countries and a wide network of Observers, Codex continues to serve as the international reference point for food standards, contributing to public health protection, food security and international trade. The plan places strong emphasis on scientific advice, transparency and inclusiveness, ensuring that standards remain relevant in the face of global drivers such as environmental change, technological development and emerging risks in the food chain. It also highlights the importance of collaboration across the multilateral system and promotes integrative approaches, including One Health, to address complex global challenges. By providing a coherent direction for 2026–2031, the publication supports countries in applying Codex standards to protect consumer health, facilitate trade and contribute to more sustainable and resilient agrifood systems worldwide.
