Descripción
Fisheries is an important sector that contributes a considerable amount to the food security and national economies of coastal West African countries, with fish being the primary source of protein for 25 percent of the population Fishery products are also a source of income and employment for more than seven million people in the region Belhabib et al 2015 However, due to overfishing and illegal fishing, estimated at 40 percent of all fish captured between 2012 and 2015 fish stocks are rapidly declining, thereby jeopardizing food security in the region.
