| dc.description | The fundamental right to be free from hunger is under threat from natural-resource depletion, environmental degradation and climate change. To meet demand from a projected population of nearly 10 billion people by 2050, agricultural output will need to increase by an estimated 50 percent or so from 2012 levels. Innovation will be key to the rapid transformation of agriculture and food systems to lift family farmers out of poverty and help achieve food security, sustainable agriculture and the SDGs. The programme will support countries in assessing their agriculture innovation systems and understanding actors’ expectations and potential. Such assessment will lead to the development of national innovation strategies aimed at unlocking national capacity to innovate through public-private partnerships and to better target future investments. | |
