Land banks are proposed as a policy strategy to transform underutilized land into productive assets, addressing land access inequalities and fostering food security in the Caribbean. These institutions redistribute land for agriculture purposes, aiming to revitalize rural economies and promote sustainable development.Pilot programs in Grenada, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, supported by the FAO, highlight their potential to enhance agricultural practices and tenure security. However, successful implementation requires addressing challenges such as limited available land, outdated legislation, and institutional weaknesses. With robust government support and inclusive stakeholder engagement, land banks could play a pivotal role in strengthening food systems and advancing sustainable agriculture across the region.
