The final formal report of the First Session of the WECAFC Committee for the Development and Management of Fisheries in the Lesser Antilles, held in Castries, Saint Lucia on 4 and 5 May 1983 is presented. Major topics discussed were: (1) objectives, functions and operational arrangements of the Committee; review of the report of the OECS/FAO Workshop on the Harmonization of Fisheries Legislation; review of fisheries situation in the area; and opportunities for cooperation and p riorities of project ideas for fishery development in the sub-region. A list of the main decisions and recommendations arising from the discussions of the above topics, which require attention/action by governments and/or FAO is given in Appendix E.
