An evaluation was made of available hatchery facilities and existing procedures in order to plan out a strategy for captive broodstock and maturation for the prawn Penaeus orientalis in Xincun, China. Information on the life history of the species was valuable in outlining specific activities in three general areas of the breeding process -- Spawning, induced maturation, and overwintering of broodstock. Facilities and equipment required to support the breeding effort are identified including a m aturation building and tanks for-maturation and spawning. Finally, training was given to the project staff in the form of lecture-slide presentations and discussions in preparation for the April-May 1988 breeding work.
