Descripción

Sub-Saharan Africa faces high youth unemployment amid a growing youth population. Agriculture offers opportunities for youth engagement, and FAO’s Office of Innovation is driving initiatives to boost youth participation in agricultural innovation systems (AIS). Youth agripreneurs address key gaps by developing innovative solutions and employ tech-driven practices to provide agricultural extension and advisory services. Their business models prioritize customer feedback, lean operations and adaptive management, relying on reinvested earnings. Passion, commitment and continuous learning fuel their success, aligning them with sustainability trends and strengthening customer loyalty. However, youth agripreneurs face various challenges including accessing finance, skill gaps and weak networks. Addressing these obstacles with targeted capacity development and financial support could further empower young agripreneurs.
