Descripción
The agricultural sector in the West Bank and Gaza Strip remains one of the most resilient strategic sectors in the Palestinian economy. However, without optimal use and proper management of land and water resources and market opportunities, the sector cannot achieve its full potential. This project aims to ensure that agribusiness sustainably contributes to economic growth and to the welfare of the Palestinian people. The project seeks to address poor management and sub-optimal utilization of accessible water resources, high vulnerability to market fluctuations, constrained access of Palestinian produce by local and international markets, and weak business management and financial capacities of farmers’ cooperatives.
To ensure ownership and sustainability of results, FAO is coordinating project activities through a participatory consultative process with the Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture, local NGOs, and other relevant stakeholders. The project is contributing to sustainably improved income and labor productivity in agribusiness, through five outputs.
This publication will be distributed to donors and partners for the purpose of capturing the impact of the project interventions on beneficiaries and reflecting the success in improving their livelihoods.
