ABSTRACT - This study was carried out with the aim to evaluate the phenotypic (rp), genetic (rg) and environmental (re) correlations between agronomic traits and the occurrence of the fungus Bipolaris maydis in Panicum maximum genotypes. The experiment was constituted of four genotypes, the commercial cultivars Mombaça and Tanzânia and the sexual plants S10 and S12 in a completely randomized design. The plots were cut at 25 cm from the soil. The agronomic characteristics evaluated were forage yield (FY), percent dry matter (%DM), dry matter yield (DMY), green dry matter yield (GDM), percentages of the morphologic components leaf blades (%B), stems (%S) and dead material (%D),, yield of leaves (LY) and stems (SY), in the green dry matter yield and .B. maydis occurrence (BM). The highest rp were observed between the fungi occurrence and %S, %LGDM and %SGDM. The rg between BM and %L was high and negative. Important environmental correlations were not observed. Nevertheless, the re between BM and %L, SY and %LGDM did not have the same sign as that of rp and rg. The occurrence of B. maydis is negatively correlated with the leaf percentage and positively correlated with stem percentage in the green dry matter yield in P. maximum genotypes, so that it can modify the morphologic composition of the forage. There is no correlation between the B. maydis occurrence and the characters related with forage yield.
