With regard to Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) the potential benefits and risks to consumers of Genetically Modified (GM) products were given consideration and GMOs approved globally is highlighted in this newsletter to provide a broader understanding on global acceptance of GMOs particularly in food and agriculture. In addition, information on the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety by national and international key roles in the project from the implementing partners, Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment and the Food and Agriculture Organization respectively, is also highlighted in this issue. This newsletter is a forum for everyone to share their views and perceptions on Biosafety and would also be a platform to integrate everyone relevant to the field of Biosafety in Sri Lanka.
