The price of red beans has started to decrease but is still at very high levels, whereas the price of maize sharply increased in recent months. Nominal maize price has exceeded the highest levels observed in 2008. Food security in recent months was reported as stable; however the situation could deteriorate due to rising food prices. Weather shocks have caused widespread damage to red beans production in 2010, affecting food security of households in western and southern districts. The g overnment is implementing measures to control red bean prices and to support producers with agricultural inputs.
