This brief introduces the Seed Requirement Estimation (SRE) Tool, a user-friendly digital solution developed by the International Potato Center (CIP) to support data-driven seed production planning for vegetatively propagated crops (VPCs) such as sweetpotato, cassava, and yam. Designed for use by national agricultural research institutes, commercial seed producers, policymakers, and NGOs, the SRE Tool enables estimation of seed demand at both national and enterprise levels. The tool incorporates adjustable parameters—adoption rates, area projections, replacement intervals, seeding rates, and wastage—to generate dynamic, scenario-based forecasts. Initially conceptualized under the SASHA and SweetGAINS projects, it has been validated across Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Nigeria through PROSSIVA and Seed Equal initiatives. Hosted by MOOD Technologies (Uganda), the SRE Tool enhances efficiency, reduces risk, and promotes market-responsive seed systems.
