| dc.description | The project, launched in 2019 as a collaboration between FAO and the Government of Oman through the MAFWR, aimed to enhance the sustainability and economic viability of small pelagic fisheries, which contribute over 60 percent of Oman’s total fisheries production but face challenges such as overexploitation, outdated stock assessments and inefficient value chains.The project’s key objective was to develop a Development and Management Plan (DMP) based on the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries (EAF), ensuring a balance between ecological sustainability and socioeconomic benefits. It focused on scientific stock assessment, improving downstream processing, and increasing economic returns through job creation and enhanced sector contributions to the Gross Domestic Product. | |
