Descripción
Based on official reports, this compendium illustrates how projects funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), designed and implemented by FAO in close collaboration with national counterparts in Latin America and the Caribbean from 2013 to 2023, are concretely contributing to achieving the objectives of the new Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework of the Convention on Biological Diversity. These projects have been instrumental in addressing critical biodiversity challenges in the region, where biodiversity is rich but threatened. FAO has worked in partnership with local governments, community organizations and other key stakeholders to develop strategies and actions that not only protect biodiversity, but also foster sustainable development and community resilience. In particular, this document focuses on Target 04: Halt species extinction, protect genetic diversity, and manage human-wildlife conflicts.Remarkable contributions have been made to halt the extinction of species and restore genetic diversity in Argentina, Bolivia (Plurinational State of), Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.
