This brief examines how improving animal health through strengthened veterinary services, disease surveillance, vaccination and reproductive management can enhance livestock productivity while reducing methane emission intensity in Kenya and East Africa. The brief demonstrates that preventable livestock diseases, calf mortality and poor reproductive performance reduce production efficiency and increase climate impacts. It further highlights animal health as a practical entry point for aligning climate mitigation, adaptation, food security and livelihood goals within livestock-dependent systems across the region.
