dc.descriptionThe High Level Workshop (HLW) on Sustainable Improvement of Rice Value Chain and Training on Hybrid Rice Integration in Africa within the framework of FAO-China South-South Cooperation (SSC) Programme, hosted by FAO and the Ministry of Agriculture of China and executed by the Centre of International Cooperation Service of the Ministry of Agriculture of China and Hunan Hybrid Rice Research Centre, was successful held in Changsha, Hunan Province during 23 June – 19 July 2014. The 7-day HLW was org anized to discuss the impact of research and development investments in hybrid rice to-date, constraints and further research needs, generate political support and target continued investment in hybrid rice research for integration in rice value chain development in Africa. A set of recommendations and a roadmap for hybrid rice technology development and integration into regional and national programmes in Africa were elaborated. Following the HLW, a 3-week Training Course on hybrid rice develop ment was conducted through the main modalities of lectures, laboratory work and field visits. A total number of 19 participants from 11 African countries attended the HLW and Training.
