The spittlebugs Mahanarva spectabilis economically challenges cattle production, reducing pasture productivity. Survivor of the nymph depend of the production of a foam, acting as an environmental protectant. This study analyzed the proteomic profiles of foam secreted by nymphs of M. spectabilis infesting four grass genotypes (Pennisetum purpureum PlO-resistant; ROXO-susceptible; Brachiaria brizantha BRI-resistant; B. decumbens DEC-susceptible). The foam protein was studied to unravel its role in plant-insect interactions.
